Make you own DIY shoe soles with natural materials for your DIY summer shoes. 😀 These DIY crochet soles are easy and quick to make – even for a crochet beginner. DIY crochet soles are perfect to make comfy, flexible, lightweight and durable soles for DIY summer shoes.
DIY Crochet Soles Vs. Traditional Rope Soles
Compared to traditional espadrilles soles, crochet soles take a little longer to make. But DIY crochet soles are much more flexible than traditional sewn rope soles of most espadrille shoes.
Like Barefoot Sandals
DIY jute crochet soles are as flexible as barefoot sandals. You can feel the ground under your natural crochet soles while the crochet soles still give you a layer of protection from sharp stones.
What Material For DIY Crochet Soles?
I used jute twine for these DIY crochet soles. But you can also use other plant fibers like cotton or linen twine, raffia, nettle fibers, rushes, straw, hay or tree bast fibers (like lime bast). Experiment with different fibers you have at home or can gather in nature and see what you like best.

Crochet Soles – Adjustable Adult Size
The DIY crochet soles pattern is not a fixed size. Make the crochet soles as big or small to fit your feet. You can easily adjust the size of the DIY crochet soles: You can increase or decrease the size of your crochet soles by crocheting more or less rows of crochet stitches.

How To Make DIY Crochet Soles
I used US crochet terms for this free crochet sole pattern.
Start
Begin the DIY crochet sole with a row of chain stitches in the middle of the sole (indicated with an asterisk in the crochet chart). Crochet single crochet stitches along one side of the chain stitches, then turn and crochet along the other side into the same chain stitches again.
Crochet 6 chain stitches.
First Round
Skip one chain stitch. Then crochet 1 single crochet stitches into each of the next 4 chain stitches. And crochet 4 single crochet stitches into the last chain stitch. Then turn and crochet 1 single crochet stitches into each of the next 4 chain stitches. End with a slip stitch into the first chain stitch.
Now work 11 chain stitches.
Second Round
Skip the first chain stitch. Then crochet 2 single crochet stitches into the next chain stitch. Now crochet 1 single crochet stitch into each of the next chain stitches and single crochet stitches of the first round until you reach the toe part of the crochet sole.
Work 2 single crochet stitches into each of the next 3 crochet stitches of the first round. Then continue to crochet 1 single crochet stitch into each of the next crochet stitches of the first round until you reach the heel part of the crochet sole. Work 2 single crochet stitches into the last stitch.
Third Round
Crochet 2 single crochet stitches into each of the next 2 crochet stitches of round 2. Then work 1 single crochet stitch into each of the next stitches of round 2 until you reach the toe part of the sole.
Crochet 2 single crochet stitches into each of the next 4 crochet stitches of the second round. And continue to crochet 1 single crochet stitch into each of the next stitches until you reach the heel part of the crochet sole.
Work 2 single crochet stitches into each of the last 2 crochet stitches of round 2.
Fourth Round
Work 2 single crochet stitches into each of the next 2 crochet stitches of round 3. Then crochet 1 single crochet stitch into each of the next stitches of the third round until you reach the toe part.
Double every other stitch of the next 7 stitches of round 3. Then slip stitch into the next stitch. Cut off the twine and weave in the end.
