Gold cake is a heavy, rich and moist cake with a yellow color! It’s so delicious! 😀 Gold cake is made with just egg yolks – so it’s a perfect way to use up leftover egg yolks! This recipe for gold cake is from the Victorian era. Today, gold cake is also called yellow cake or yellow butter cake. The Victorian gold cake is very sweet, so feel free to reduce the sugar amount if you want.
Ingredients:
- 2/3 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 6 egg yolks
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
Preheat the oven to 180°C/ 356°F. Cream together butter and sugar. Add beaten egg yolks, flour and baking powder. Bake in a greased pan for about 20 minutes. Gold cake is best on the first day.
You can add vanilla or chocolate frosting to make the cake extra special, but the gold cake is delicious on its own!
This looks delish! It reminds me of the cakes my mom used to make growing up. I can’t wait to try this!
