Today I’ve sewn a white cotton jersey underskirt for a pleated skirt.
The skirt is made from polyester knit fabric which looks like chiffon and is very sheer, as you can see in the picture above. I searched long for a suitable lining fabric. I thought about using thin woven cotton fabric, polyester lining or knitted polyester fabric. As it’s a summer skirt I preferred a natural fiber lining. So I chose viscose chiffon from my stash. But I had to use two layers to make the skirt not see-through – and then the petticoat was too heavy. 🙁 So I thought why not using cotton knit fabric: it’s a natural fiber, not see-through, and doesn’t need ironing! 😀
I used one layer of white knit fabric and attached the underskirt by hand with overcasting stitches which don’t go through to the outside. The jersey makes a beautiful lining, better than I thought at first. 😉
Here I’m wearing the pleated skirt with the new lining.
