I made my own rice flour for an Edwardian face powder recipe. But this rice flour can also be used for cooking and baking. It takes some time to make rice flour at home, but it’s softer than store-bought rice flour.
You’ll need:
- white basmati rice
Soak the rice at least for 1 hour. Then rinse and drain the rice. Spread the rice on a kitchen towel and let it dry for about 1 hour outside in the sun. Grind the rice in a food processor.
Then sieve the rice flour through a fine mesh sieve. Dry roast the rice flour, or let it dry for 2 or 3 days inside the house. The coarsely ground rice residue can also be used for cooking.
What a surprise it is!!! I love it 🙂 🙂 🙂
Thanks, Sarah!
I often use rice flour for cooking. I never thought about making my own. Thanks for sharing the directions!

does the baby cereal rice work
Sorry, I don’t know if baby cereal rice works, I used basmati rice.
I really like this recipe! I would like to try it in the next days for some powder. But I have two questions: is it also working if I don’t use a food processor but grind the rice manually? And can I let it dry maybe on the heating because there is no sun?
Thank you! 😀 Yes, you can probably dry it on the heating or in the oven. And you can try grinding the rice manually in a mortar, but rice is very hard to grind. Hope this helps!
