How To Make A Victorian Swimming Belt (1859)

I’ve found a curious article on how to make a swimming belt in 1859.

The article says to buy two guts from the butcher, clean them in soap and water, and turn them inside out to soak them in alum water. Then the guts are blowed up with air, and the ends tied with waxed string. After some days, the guts should be varnished.
