Edwardian Flat Cap

In the Edwardian era, ladies wore large flat caps for casual wear and for sports. Here you’ll see a photograph of a lady dressed for tennis. And here is a 1907 lady in golfing costume with flat cap. Here are some more photographs of ladies with flat caps. And another photograph of a lady with sweater and flat cap. And here’s a 1905 ladies’ motoring hat.

For my flat cap, I’ve used checked wool fabric in cream, beige, and dark brown. Lining fabric is a apricot dotted sateen. My flat cap isn’t as large as most of the Edwardian flat caps, as there wasn’t more of this wool fabric left. But I liked this checked fabric so much, and thought it quite suitable for this hat.
