Make vintage inspired DIY popsicle stick sled ornaments with popsicle sticks, wood glue and acrylic paint for your Christmas tree this year!
These DIY popsicle stick sled ornaments are a great last minute Christmas craft! They look cute as Christmas tree ornaments or make a great Christmas gift for a loved one. My inspiration for the DIY popsicle sled ornaments was this antique Victorian wooden sled.
DIY Popsicle Stick Sled Ornaments
You’ll need:
- popsicle sticks
- matchsticks
- red and white acrylic paint
- wood glue (or other glue)
- red or white yarn
- strong scissors or pruning shears
- ruler
- paintbrush
- wood file or sandpaper
You need 4 popsicle sticks and 2 matchsticks for each vintage sled ornament.
Cut 2 popsicle sticks in half rounding the edges of three sticks – pruning sheers work well for this. Using the fourth popsicle stick half, cut off a small piece for the handlebar. Smooth the wood with sandpaper or a wood file.
For the sled seat, glue three small popsicle sticks together staggering them as shown. If you want, glue two matchsticks to the back of the seat for extra stability.
Paint the sled runners white and all the other pieces red.
Glue the sled runners to the seat and handlebar on the edges. Wipe off excess wood glue. Then glue a piece of yarn to the back of the handlebar on both sides as hanger.
