I’ve seen those cute pom pom straw clutches on pinterest – they’re perfect for summer! I’m a huge fan of upcycling – so I thought I could make my own cute pom pom straw bag with a placemat! A straw placemat clutch is easy to make – I’ll show you how! 😀
DIY Pom Pom Straw Clutch – Tutorial
- straw, raffia or woven grass placemat *
- DIY mini pom poms and tassels
- scissor, needle & thread
* You can use a round, oval or square placemat – the steps are the same. I used an oval placemat.
Soak the placemat in water for a couple of hours – it’s necessary so that the straw doesn’t break when folding.
Fold the placemat in half (with the right side facing you). Use clothes pins to hold the placemat together. Let the straw placemat dry.
Stitch the zipper in place. You can use a sewing machine or attach the zipper with running stitches by hand. I wanted to sew outside, so I hand-stitched the zipper in place. Trim the zipper if it’s too long.
Tie the pom poms to the bag with square knots.
And your DIY pom pom straw placemat clutch is finished! Yay! 😀
Now make matching pom pom sandals from scratch!
