Using baking soda and water is a cheap, safe, natural and effective way to clean your oven!

Baking soda + vinegar doesn’t work. I saw a pin on pinterest about how to clean the oven naturally with baking soda and vinegar. I tried that first but it didn’t work very well because baking soda is a base while vinegar is an acid. They neutralize each other and have no cleaning power after the reaction: you’re just left with water with a tiny amount of salt in it (a dilute sodium acetate solution).

Baking soda + water works! But it’s really easy to clean the oven with baking soda and water. If you let the solution sit in the oven for some hours you can clean your oven naturally with almost no elbow grease!

You’ll need:

  • 2 tbsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp water
  • abrasive sponge or scouring pad

Directions:

Remove the oven racks.

Mix together baking soda and water until you get a spreadable paste. Spread the paste over the inside of your oven with a sponge. Make more paste if you don’t have enough to cover all spots. Let the mixture sit in the oven overnight or for some hours at least.

Scrub the inside of the oven with a sponge.

Wipe out the oven with water.

Clean the oven racks with soapy water and a scouring pad in the bathtub. Replace the oven racks and you’re done!
