I’ve made this hairstyle which is inspired by Empress Elisabeth of Austria‘s braided hairstyles.
Late 1860s Braided Hairstyle
This late 1860s braided hairstyle is inspired by this 1870 fashion plate (the one in the bottom left corner) and by Empress Elisabeth’s braided hairstyles. Here’s also a similar hairstyle (the Catalina). I parted my hair down the middle, made two braids, laid them into loops and secured them with hairpins.
1910s Hairstyle – The Recamier Coiffure
For the 1910s hairstyle I followed the coiffure lesson for ‘the now fashionable Recamier style‘. It says that the fashionable woman no longer wears a huge pompadour hairstyle or an exaggerated swirl. It calls the Recamier the smartest hairstyle which every woman can make herself. Additionally, a hairpiece is no longer needed for this new style.
