Save Old, Holey Tights & Stockings – Refashion Tutorial

Save Old, Holey Tights And Stockings - Refashion Tutorial

After turning old leggings into thigh-high stockings and a knit shirt into knee socks, I now saved old, holey tights and stockings. It’s an easy and quick refashion!

While clearing out grandma’s house, I found these old cotton tights. They had holes at the heel and toes, but instead of throwing them away or refashioning them I thought I could use the same technique that I used for my leggings-turned-stockings.

I cut off the holey part at the foot. I also cut off the top part of the tights – turning the tights into stockings – and used the fabric for new soles. (You can use the same technique for stockings and turn them into socks.)

Then I zigzagged the new soles and the leg part together using a ballpoint needle (detail picture on my leggings to stockings refashion tutorial). It isn’t necessary to finish the raw edges because knit fabric doesn’t fray.

And the old stockings are like new again! ๐Ÿ˜€

  1. Clever! I have to confess that I don’t do much sewing but I’m always impressed when other people do it. Plus my kids are always poking holes in their socks so this would save me a fortune! #dreamteam

  2. Love this idea Lina and it’s becoming so difficult to find fine knit stockings now a days. I have a feel holy ones in my closet that I wear constantly in Winter, holes and all. I guess I better haul out that sewing machine

  3. Such a brilliant idea! I know I’d feel bad cutting them but I’d also feel good about recycling them! Pinned it.
Thanks for linking up to the Friday Frenzy!

  4. This is a very clever idea! I never thought to just fix something like nylons.

Now that I have a little girl, I have started to turn old holey tights into headbands. They are super soft and she leaves them on, not to mention how easy it is to make them. It is a dream!

Found you through the Mommy Moments party. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks, Katelynn! ๐Ÿ˜€ You can totally use another knit fabric if you want to save the tights aspect. I’ve already combined two leggings into one pair of stockings and it worked well. If you want you could also add thick (padded) soles.
