1930s Strawberry Dessert Recipe

This strawberry custard recipe is from the 1930s! I found it in one of grandma’s cookbooks while clearing out her house.

Easy Strawberry Dessert Recipe
Vanilla custard with sugared garden or wild strawberries

The recipe says to use fresh strawberries but it also works with frozen strawberries.

Strawberry Dessert, Use Up Leftover Stale Cake

This old-fashioned strawberry dessert is a delicious way to use up that leftover stale cake! 🙂

 

Ingredients

1930s Vanilla Custard
Strawberries
  • 1/2 – 1 kg sugared garden or wild strawberries
Optional
  • stale cake cubes

 

Old-Fashioned Strawberry Custard Recipe

Combine milk, egg yolks, cornstarch and vanilla sugar in a saucepan. Cook, stirring constantly, until the custard thickens. Put the saucepan in a cold water bath, stirring occasionally.

Beat the egg whites until stiff. When the custard is cold, fold in the egg whites.

Stir the sugared strawberries into the vanilla custard.

Old-Fashioned Vanilla Custard With Wild Strawberries

Optional: Pour the strawberry custard over stale cake cubes.

Refrigerate until serving.
