Old-Fashioned Lilac Syrup

Did you know that lilac flowers are edible? I didn’t until two years ago but now I’m addicted! I couldn’t find many lilac flower recipes. So I adapted my sweet woodruff syrup recipe and came up with this lilac flower syrup! All you need for this simple old-fashioned lilac syrup is fresh lilac flowers, sugar and water!

You can use homemade lilac syrup for sorbet – lilac sorbet is so delicious! – lemonade and iced tea! Lilac syrup would make a great gift for any lilac lover!

Old-Fashioned Lilac Syrup

Ingredients:

  • 2 handful fresh lilac flowers (about 20g)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water

Directions:

Cook sugar and water until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool. Then stir in the fresh lilac flowers and let the old-fashioned lilac syrup steep for 2 – 4 days in the fridge.

Remove the lilac flowers: You can use a fork or mesh strainer to remove the lilac flowers.

Store the old-fashioned lilac syrup in the fridge.
