DIY Nautical Ruffle Fabric Bag
I love this pretty blue and white knitted flounced bag! But I don’t like to knit. 😉 So I thought I’d use some fabric scraps and sew a nautical ruffle bag! I used white cotton canvas and white aida cloth. Here you’ll find the tutorial for a cute ruffled tote bag. My bag is a small bag, so it has just two ruffles. And instead of zigzagging the edges, I crocheted around the edges of the ruffles with blue cotton yarn. The bag is closed with a wood button and yarn button loop.

[…] It is hardly too much to say that at least half the success of a picnic depends upon the providing of daintily packed and appetising looking fare, be it as elaborate or as simple as you please; and the invention of cardboard plates and dishes has greatly simplified picnicking’. (Every Woman’s Encyclopaedia, 1910-2)
For the Historical Food Fortnightly challenge 11 ‘picnic foods’, I made delicious Edwardian lemonade and Victorian and Edwardian sweet and savory sandwiches. Continue reading Edwardian Picnic Recipes – Historical Food Fortnightly
1920s Turquoise Taffeta Robe De Style
A few years ago I made a 1920s turquoise taffeta robe de style dress. A robe de style was an 1920s alternative to the typical 1920s chemise-style evening dresses. Conservative women, who might not bob their hair and preferred to wear classic, more feminine dresses, often chose to wear a robe de style.
